Building Systems Lab Clovis High has a number of CTE/ROP opportunities available for our students.  Classes range from Construction to Careers with Children with a wide variety in between.  If you're interested in learning in the filed as opposed to the traditional classroom setting, see your counselor today for a full list of our course offerings and entry requirements. 

Construction Technology

Construction Technology, at Clovis High includes classes designed to teach students practical hands on skills in construction.  Classes offer students the unique opportunity to learn skills from dedicated craftsmen, skilled technicians, and to partner with local businesses in the community. Students leaving our programs gain skills that can be used to further their educational careers as well as help them find jobs in the future.  To join one this exciting program contact your school's guidance counselor.
 

Clovis High Automotive Technology

Students gain practical, hands-on experience in diagnosing, trouble-shooting, and servicing procedures in the automotive field with particular emphasis on maintenance and light repair. Students will develop skills through classroom instruction and a series of assigned projects. The course also covers the shop practice of maintenance and light repair in the following areas: drive trains, axles, suspension, steering, brakes, electrical, engine performance and air conditioning. This automotive program has an extraordinary distinction— it is certified by the National Automotive Technician Education Foundation, NATEF. 

Careers with Children:

Child Development/Careers with Children  class  is a 2-period class offered during periods 1-2, 3-4, 6-7.  This class is a fun, fast-paced class that works closely together to build trust, confidence and public speaking skills. This course is designed to prepare students to work in fields that will interact with children from birth to age twelve.  Students will learn the organization and procedures involved with a preschool and day care centers, and techniques for instructing,  guiding, and caring for children in a various programs or age levels.  Students will also study the nature and scope of the elementary school system, responsibilities of an instructional aide and classroom teacher. Students will learn classroom management techniques, lesson planning and implementation. Students will be placed in an elementary classroom, preschool, or child development center to observe and work as in intern 4 days per week working closely with a classroom teacher and their students.  Students gain skills and confidence throughout the school year.


This class takes field trips to Clovis Community College Center to tour the campus and Child Development Center, CUSD Teacher Center for training on the various machines, among others.

Students taking this class have an opportunity to compete in the Career Skills Challenge held at Fresno City College.


Arts, Media, and Entertainment

Intro to Digital Photo (CTE I) - Introduction to Digital Photography is a beginning photography course
emphasizing in art, composition and the digital arts with the purpose of exposing students to various career opportunities in the digital media world. Students, working in an industry-designed Apple iMac computer lab, will learn more of the technical aspects of Adobe Photoshop in order to enhance their digital photos and will create a variety of digital imagery and print publications.

Topics of study include but are are not limited to : the Fundamentals, Principles and Elements of art; the history of art and photography; designing, setting, and exceeding project requirements; identifying design elements when preparing images; learning to manipulate and publish images using Adobe Photoshop; interviewing practices and working within a group environment.

Digital Photo II (CTEII) - This advanced Photography course has our independent student-thinkers in mind that are seeking to expand their art and photo skills. Students will dive into studio work, lighting, portrait and composition concepts while enhancing their knowledge and use of Adobe Photoshop. This course builds on what students learned in our Introductory courses and continues to build on those fundamentals. Topics include setting project requirements, identifying design elements when preparing images, understanding advanced areas of Photoshop, manipulating images using Adobe Photoshop, publishing images using Photoshop, and portfolio development.
