The Science Department at Clovis High School is proud to offer students a comprehensive grade 9 through 12 science experience. We offer a wide variety of both required and elective classes taught by veteran teachers with more than 100 years of combined teaching experience. Our modern classrooms offer students the chance to experience hands-on real world lab activities and to use equipment that was previously only found in a college setting. The Science department also offers a number of extra-curricular activities ranging from science based clubs and teams to field trips that allow students to take learning to the next level. Science Olympiad and Science Fair teams are sponsored by our department.
Our Science curriculum is aligned with the current Next Generation Science Standards and is articulated with our sister school Clark Intermediate. Upon their arrival at Clovis High, incoming Freshman are offered Biology or Honors Biology. If students took Biology in Eighth Grade, they may enroll in Chemistry. As Sophomores, students are offered Integrated Physical Science (IPS), Chemistry or Honors Chemistry. Students that completed Chemistry during their Freshman year have the option to enroll in Advanced Placement (AP) Biology during their Sophomore year. Once students reach their Junior year, they may take advantage of our Science electives which include Anatomy & Physiology and Physics. Juniors may also choose from a variety of AP courses such as AP Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental Science. Juniors also have the option of taking courses with lab components at CART. Students entering High school can tailor their coursework to fulfill graduation, CSU or UC requirements. All CHS Science students will practice the study habits, critical analysis skills, and lab techniques necessary to prepare them for success in high school science and beyond.
